Cara Strickland, LMFT, EMDR, Equine Assisted Therapy
Hi I’m Cara! I look forward to meeting you and co-creating a new chapter of your life!
You are capable of healing, and I am glad you found your way to Argyle Family Counseling! I imagine you found yourself here because you are walking through a very difficult season of your life. I get it, I’ve been there too, and I am here to tell you that you do not have to walk through this alone! YOU MATTER and it is time to prioritize your mental health, your relationships, and restore your spirit to find joy again.
I truly believe that every person has the capacity to work through the messy parts of their life and reconnect with their deepest authentic self. Pain demands to be heard and it takes a lot of guts and grit to ask for help, self-reflect, examine our choices and to be vulnerable. I am here to help walk alongside of you through that journey and offer you a safe, non-judgmental place to shed the pain and bloom into the greatest version of who you were created to be.

Experience
I have extensive experience working with a diverse range of clients as a Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in various relational dynamics. I firmly believe that we are all "co-creators" of the experiences we refer to as “life.” I view relationships as both laboratories of the spirit and hospitals for the soul, where our wounds can surface and heal through safety and vulnerability.
As an EMDRIA trained Level II Certified EMDR clinician, I assist clients in recovering from traumatic experiences and debilitating anxiety, overcoming feelings of being "stuck," redefining negative self-beliefs, extinguishing phobias, and building resilience. My therapeutic approach incorporates several modalities, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Therapy, the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness.
My professional experience is diverse, encompassing equine-assisted therapy, private practice, educational settings, psychiatric hospitals, trauma centers, substance abuse treatment facilities, and providing support to military veterans and first responders, along with their families.
I have addressed a wide range of issues, including relationship distress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, couples and family therapy (including marital, premarital, remarriage, and blended family challenges), as well as providing support for parenting, divorce recovery, complicated grief, self-harm, addiction/substance use, and recovery from traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
Authentic connection, safety and trust are the cornerstones of my therapeutic approach.
I, too, have faced pain and disappointment that have challenged me to dig deep and learn to overcome. It is my sincerest desire to partner with you, providing the therapeutic tools and emotional support necessary to navigate your times of tragedy, build resilience, and restore peace in your life.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe effective therapy is rooted in collaboration, compassion, connection, vulnerability, safety, and trust. It takes tremendous courage to confront life’s challenges, and I truly believe this journey is both powerful and worthwhile. I understand that therapy is an investment of your time, finances, and emotional resources, and it is my honor to support you as you pursue healing and restoration for yourself and your family.
Together, let’s take that first step! We only have one life, and each day matters. It would be my privilege to meet with you and begin our journey together!
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21
What Clients Are Saying…
“I truly feel God placed Cara in my life at a time I could barely breathe on my own. She quickly took my daughter as a client, and walked with us through some of the most trying and emotional times that no one should ever have to go through. Cara's constant support, empathy and compassion is like nothing I have felt before, like what I envision Jesus’ compassion will feel like. Her kind words, gentle guidance, and fierce encouragement, has been life-changing for me and my family. She has led me down a path of such healing and self-awareness that I could have never navigated alone… Beauty from ashes!”

“We found Cara after doing some research on several available options in our area. Initially the decision to go with her was based on her Christian approach. Cara listened to us and jumped in immediately with plans to resolve the challenges. She addressed the tough key points of contention without hesitation and was very passionate about moving to a successful end result for all involved. Her knowledge gained through experience, and her sincere, genuine passion to help people, makes her the best of the best in the Metroplex without question. She is one heck of a therapist and has made me a better person. Simply put, she's awesome.”
